PCB assembly capability for up to 01005 components

With the increasing adoption of ultrasmall SMT components driven by miniaturization in electronic devices, the PCB assembly process requires ever-greater precision and reliability.

In China, which accounts for more than half of global shipments of PCBAs, upgrading of production and testing equipment continues, with the goal of handling various SMD sizes at high speed and with accuracy. So far, manufacturers have improved their placement capability from 0201 chip packages to as minuscule as 01005.

Full and partial turnkey services are available from Chinese suppliers. In terms of PCBs, the choices range from the most basic single- and double-sided to advanced multilayer types in rigid, flexible, rigid-flex and aluminum forms. In addition to 01005 components, the minimum that can be processed is 0.2mm IC pitch and uBGA ball diameter.

These companies have facilities for through-hole and surface-mount methods and can implement mixed assembly as well. As assurance of quality, they follow CE, REACH, RoHS and UL standards and maintain ISO 9001-compliant factories.

The PCB assemblies they produce are used in consumer electronics, computers and peripherals, and the communications, medical, automotive, industrial, military and aviation fields.

Chinese manufacturers source PCBs, passive components, ICs and connectors from domestic or foreign providers, depending on customers’ requirements. A few have the capability to make their own boards in-house.

The cost of these inputs rose in 2021, resulting in 5 to 10 percent higher prices. Suppliers interviewed by Global Sources are optimistic that component costs and PCBA quotes will be stable in the coming months.

4mil minimum line width, spacing
Shenzhen Fastlink Circuits Technology Co. Ltd’s KL-AC-005 PCB assembly uses a 4-layer board with an FR-4 base, 1oz copper, 0.2mm minimum holes, 4mil minimum line width and spacing, blue, green or red LPI solder mask, white silk-screening and lead-free HASL surface finish. Board thickness is 1.6mm. Order quantity is negotiable. Delivery takes three days.

 

FR-4, CEM-1, ceramic board
The KL-AC-003 PCB assembly from Shenzhen Fastlink Circuits Technology Co. Ltd uses a board with an FR-4, CEM-1 or ceramic base, 1 to 10oz copper thickness, up to 2mm holes, 4mil minimum line width and spacing, HASL, OSP or ENIG surface finish, white or black silk-screening, and green and white, blue, red, black, yellow or purple solder mask. Board thickness is 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1, 1.2, 1.6, 2, 2.4, 3.2 or 4mm. Order quantity is negotiable. Lead time is three days.

 

Up to 0201 chips
Assembled using COB, SMT, through-hole and BGA, the GT-PA690507 PCB from Shenzhen Grandtop Electronics Co. Ltd uses a board with 0.2mm minimum IC pitch, 0.3mm minimum BGA spacing, as small as 0201 chips and ±0.03mm maximum IC precision. This unit conforms to CE, FCC, RoHS and UL standards.
The minimum order is 10 units. Lead time is seven days.

 

0.1 to 6mm board thickness
Shenzhen Grandtop Electronics Co. Ltd manufactures this GR-PC039 PCB assembly using a board with an FR-4 base, 0.5 to 6oz copper thickness, as small as 0.25mm holes, 3mil and 3.94 mil minimum line width and spacing, and HASL surface finish. Board thickness is 0.1 to 6mm.
An order of at least 10 units is accepted and has a lead time of seven days.

 

For emergency lights
For emergency lights, the PCBA-A-039 from Syhogy (Xiamen) Tech Co. Ltd uses a 2-layer board with an FR-4 base and 0.5 to 2oz copper. Board thickness is 1.2mm.
The supplier requires a minimum order of 500 units. Delivery is within seven days.

 

For USB chargers
Syhogy (Xiamen) Tech Co. Ltd’s T-PCBA-027 is for USB chargers and is based on a board with a UL94-V-0-rated FR-4 material.
An order of at least 3,000 units is required. Lead time is 15 days.
