More RJ-45 Magnetic Connectors Due for Release

RJ-45 connectors remain the most widely used standard in hardwired Ethernet devices in homes, commercial properties and industrial buildings. They ensure the stability and security of data signals while also delivering electrical power. Some of these connectors integrate a transformer module in their housings to meet the magnetics requirement in all Ethernet equipment. Also called RJ-45 magnetic jacks, they offer enhanced EMI shielding in an all-in-one solution.

In China, the integration trend is expected to drive future releases in this category, with manufacturers of magnetic components already joining the fray. Shanghai Meisongbei, for instance, has introduced RJ-45 connectors with a magnetic transformer module. The supplier has three decades of experience in inductors, coils and transformers.

Chinese companies have T568A and T568B RJ-45 connectors in male and female, shielded and unshielded versions compatible with 0.4 to 0.6mm-diameter wires. These plugs are self-locking – a feature that prevents them from loosening – and flame-retardant. Their typical specifications are a maximum contact resistance of 25mohms, minimum insulation resistance of 1,000Mohm, dielectric strength of 1,000VDC or 700VAC, operating temperature of -40 to 85 C and life span exceeding 750 cycles.

These connectors have PBT, nylon 66 or UL94V-0-rated nylon 6 housings and terminal brackets, gold- or silver-plated phosphor bronze contacts and nickel-plated copper alloy shields. They are CE-approved, RoHS-compliant and UL-listed.

Chinese manufacturers welcome customization and accommodate buyers’ requests for sources of materials to be used.
