Aluminum extrusion, or the process of forcing aluminum alloy through a die to make it form specific shapes and sizes for various applications, has a market forecast to grow from $58.35 billion in 2020 to $123.28 billion by 2028, according to Accuray Research. This remarkable growth in the aluminum extrusion industry is driven by the fact that this process is used to produce aluminum parts that make up objects we see every day – from food packaging and light fixtures to automotive and construction parts.

Top industries that use aluminum extrusion products

Developed in the 1800s, aluminum extrusion can be found just about everywhere today. Here are some of the top industries that use the technology, according to the website of Massachusetts-based supplier Silver City Aluminum:

  • Consumer goods and food packaging
  • Construction and architecture
  • Logistics
  • Electronics
  • Military
  • Agriculture

Why aluminum?

Aside from being one of the most commonly available metals on the planet, aluminum offers many advantages over other materials in manufacturing. Its light weight makes it easier to transport and its durability is enough to withstand the test of corrosion over time, hence its widespread use in automotive parts such as frames, bodies, wheel rims and various engine parts. Aluminum is also an excellent conductor of heat, making its application in heat-conducting industrial parts ideal. Furthermore, aluminum can be recycled endlessly and efficiently – as it takes up to 95 percent less energy to recycle than to produce.
