In the swimwear race, Quanzhou emerges victorious
Swimming is one if not the most popular water activity and for a good reason — almost anybody can do it. From young kids and families wading leisurely at the beach to competitive fitness buffs racing toward the finish line, swimming can suit every person at any age or any fitness level.
This is the reason the global swimwear market is continuously on an uptrend. A recent report by business intelligence firm Technavio predicts the market to reach $6.51 billion in 2023, for a 6.2 percent CAGR from 2019 numbers.
Women’s swimwear is expected to remain the strongest segment during the forecast period. Manufacturers will continue to incorporate fashion elements, including vivid colors and designs, stylish prints and trendy trims to attract customers. The rise of inclusive pieces such as plus-size versions is pushing demand upward as well.
Recent innovations in the textile industry have resulted in swimwear that is not only comfortable to wear but also offers sun protection.Chlorine-resistant and UV-protective swimwear, for instance, prevents skin irritation and sunburn, respectively. Pieces that are quick-drying and possess four-way stretch boost comfort.
Quanzhou, swimwear sourcing hub
Boasting years of experience and strong manufacturing pool, Quanzhou has become one mainland China’s primary sourcing hubs for swimwear.
This port city and largest metropolitan area in Fujian province is home to hundreds of manufacturers specializing in the line. The majority of these companies are based in the districts of Jinjiang and Shishi, and have at least a decade of industry experience. The selection includes bikinis, maillots, rashguards, boardshortss and coverups.
Factories use domestically sourced equipment, including computerized sewing, pressing and smocking machines. Some employ advanced units from Taiwan, Japan, Italy or Spain. Large enterprises generally conduct R&D, material sourcing, sample making, cutting, sewing, QC and shipping in-house.
Quanzhou’s geographic location is an advantage as well. It is home to the Quanzhou port, facilitating transport of goods. The Quanzhou Jinjiang International Airport offers daily flights to different domestic and international locations while the high-speed Fuzhou-Xiamen Railway has been operational since 2010.
