Over the coming weeks, we will “build” a smart home by examining further several trends taking the smart movement by storm, starting with automation, practically one of the basics in a connected home.

A new market research report published by MarketsandMarkets expects the home automation market to be worth nearly $79.6 billion by 2022 with a CAGR of 11.3 percent during the 2016-22 forecast period. The market was worth $39.9 billion in 2016.

The report defined home automation as “precisely describes homes in which lights, appliances, electrical outlets, heating and cooling systems, and others are connected to a remotely accessible network”, enabling power savings.

Global Sources Verified Suppliers of home electronics are right on the nose with R&D, focusing efforts on home automation solutions that connect multiple systems under one easy-to-use network.

Inspiring, for example, offers a compact plug-and-play smart home kit with seven wireless modules. The kit, dubbed the K Kit, is controlled via a smartphone, and also includes a hub, induction light, IR and RF remote controls, temperature and humidity sensor, and motion and open/shut sensors.

The DP-431–#00-#1270 from Tongwei is a doorbell-and-intercom automation solution. It comes with a TFT LCD and has 12 melody options.

This voice-activated wall switch, on the other hand, turns off lights and appliances remotely. The product is from Golden, and works with Alexa and Google Home. The intelligent sharing feature allows control to be shared with multiple members of the household.

Another home automation solution from Golden is Zigbee-based. The ZIG-01 model is a hub for Wi-Fi video doorbells, door/motion sensors, water leakage detector, indoor/outdoor camera monitoring, window/curtain control, smoke/gas detector, air-condition system, fresh air system and floor heating system.
